A homes building enclosure is critical in both high performance homes and coastal homes. Ideally both are performed so it is not only water tight but also air tight making it a high performance coastal home. The purpose of the building enclosure is to control the movement of water, air, thermal energy, and water vapor. The goal in a coastal home is to prevent water infiltration into the interior, limit long-term wetting of the building components, and control air and vapor movement through the enclosure. This requires a successful moisture barrier system which will limit water infiltration into unwanted areas and allow drainage and drying of wetted building materials.
